Collaboration Overview
About Students

The Masters in Business Analytics Program at Montclair State offers an experiential learning opportunity for the students to apply their Business Analytics skills in solving a real business problem. In this course, students will work on a collaborative group project that addresses a live business problem using the analytical techniques learned in the other courses comprising this major. Students will clearly articulate the business problem and the goals of their chosen analytical approach. They will have access to realistically big data and an opportunity to appreciate, through an application, the possibilities and limitations of these analytical techniques. Students will be placed in companies and expected to understand and communicate the business implications of their analysis to interested stakeholders. Companies are welcome to take on more than one student team.

Project Title Automating And Visualizing Fhlbsf Community Impact For Policy Makers
Project Synopsis

What is the challenge or opportunity you are trying to address within your organization?

The mission of the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco (FHLBSF aka the Bank) system is to support and stabilize home ownership across the United States through access to funds by financial institution's involved in mortgage lending. In the service of that mission the Bank's Legislative Affairs group engages with state and national policy makers about the impact the bank makes on local communities. This project will work with the Bank's Data Science team to support these efforts in the following ways: 1. Prepare vivid and informative GIS visualizations that showcase the Bank's impact via its members lending activities. (Show maps where the bank makes a difference in terms of mortgage lending) 2. Identify key constituent demographics and bank coverage (Figure out where voters reside and local demographics) 3. Automate slide deck and interactive dashboards (create slides on the fly, programmatically and help develop interactive web apps) Stretch goals include lead prioritization of different districts and regions where the bank makes the most impact and collecting information about each legislator from public sources.

What are some of the activities or action items you think will need to be taken to achieve your desired results?

What would make this project a success for your organization? What measurable results are you looking to accomplish?
