Project Title

Validating and Enhancing Skavengerz's Financial Model & Monetization Strategy

Challenge/Opportunity

Skavengerz is a gamified mobile platform that drives real-world engagement and foot traffic through location-based scavenger hunts, gamification mechanics, and user-generated content. As Skavengerz prepares for beta launch and scale, the leadership team has identified six core revenue streams in its investor pitch deck:

  1. Premium User Subscriptions

  2. Brand & Business Sponsorships

  3. Local Business Advertisements

  4. Marketplace Features (Coin Store & Swag Redemption)

  5. Event Hosting & Custom Quests

  6. Data & Insights for Brands (Location-based engagement analytics)

The company has developed a preliminary financial model reflecting assumptions across these six areas but seeks outside validation and refinement. Fordham MBA finance students are invited to analyze these models, pressure-test the underlying assumptions, and propose pricing frameworks and monetization strategies that align with both user expectations and B2B partner demand.

Project Objectives

  • Validate or refine Skavengerz’s existing financial model, testing user/advertiser adoption rates, pricing assumptions, CAC, and LTV projections.

  • Conduct a pricing audit of competitors across mobile gaming, event tech, loyalty apps, and creator monetization platforms.

  • Build tiered pricing strategies for both users and business partners (CPM, CPC, flat-fee, or hybrid).

  • Run qualitative and quantitative research on perceived value among Gen Z and Millennial users and local business advertisers.

  • Forecast revenue growth scenarios based on user growth, engagement metrics, churn, and advertiser penetration.

  • Recommend a go-to-market monetization roadmap that balances short-term revenue and long-term network effects.
Project Synopsis: Activities/Actions Required
 Action Items

  1. Industry & Competitor Audit

    • Compare B2C monetization (freemium tiers, in-app purchases, memberships) and B2B models (ads, sponsorships, campaign tools).

    • Analyze models from apps like GooseChase, Niantic (Pokémon GO), Yelp for Business, and event-based apps like Eventbrite.

  2. Survey & Stakeholder Discovery

    • Design surveys/focus groups targeting Skavengerz’s core Gen Z/Millennial demographic.

    • Interview small-to-medium-sized local businesses and national brands on willingness to pay for user engagement, location-based ads, and performance metrics.

  3. Pricing Strategy Development

    • Create pricing ladders for users (based on features like early access, coin multipliers, creator mode, etc.).

    • Develop advertiser pricing models by use case: local promotions, national scavenger campaigns, geo-fencing, and sponsored quests.

  4. Financial Model Refinement

    • Update existing Skavengerz model with new data.

    • Simulate low/mid/high market adoption scenarios for each revenue stream.

    • Create dashboards or tools that allow real-time sensitivity testing.

  5. Go-to-Market Strategy

    • Build pricing rollout plans (launch vs post-growth phase).

    • Create positioning recommendations for brand partners, creators, and regional activations.

    • Include risk mitigation and user acquisition cost modeling.
Project Synopsis: Expected Results

Success Metrics

  • Clear, scalable pricing strategies for each of the six monetization streams.

  • A go-to-market roadmap that supports a successful beta rollout and post-launch revenue growth.
