My name is Jasmin Harrell, I am just getting into the mental health field. I graduated college in 2020 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, with a minor in social welfare. While in college I worked at the Shoe Dept. and learned to read people. I also learned how to talk to people and really put on a sales face. Towards the end of my college experience I worked at the YMCA for a summer. It allowed me to interact with kids and to form relationships and trust with them. Lastly, I worked at Domino's as a delivery driver. In this position, I did not really work directly with people but I saw the different areas that people lived in. I saw a peek into the lives of the rich and poor. Domino's also allowed me to work on my managerial skills and delegating tasks. After college, I obtained a job at a psychiatric residential treatment facility for kids that had behavioral issues. This opened my eyes to the world of mental illness. I learned how to work with kids and gain their trust and respect. Currently, I work at the Northeast Florida State Hospital as a rehabilitation therapist. I work with adults who suffer from mental illness and have therefore gotten charges due to their actions. Working here has allowed me to humanize those with mental illnesses as well as learn how to talk to them and again form relationships with them. I hope to continue my knowledge and experience in the mental health field.
